Background:
Danny was diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder at
the age of 2. He is an affectionate child, cheerful child.
Danny’s ability to communicate is severly lacking. He is
able to repeat words and short prases, but is unable to
communicate independently to express needs, answer
novel questions, or describe events in his day. Danny of-
ten demonstrates frustration at his inability to effectively
communicate with adults or peers. He is unable to ap-
propriately initiate or maintain play with peers without as-
sistance, and requires support in fine motor tasks as well.
He is bright and learns quickly, but requires individualized
teaching in order to learn new concepts.
Danny’s parents are hardworking and are dedicated to getting their son the help he
needs. Danny possesses great potential for development, but requires intensive inter-
vention immediately.
Need:
° Verbal Behavior Therapy -
Intensive intervention to develop and support communication and congnitive skills
10 hours per week recommended for a minimum period of one year
- Cost: $ 445/week (note: cost not covered by Medicaid)
° Therapy Instensive Integrated Group Program (1:1.5 therapist:child ratio)-
Integrated interventions including Speech, Occupational, Sensory Integration, Verbal
Behavior, DIR/Floortime, Social/Relational, Pragmatic Language, and Cognitive Support
10 hours per week recommended for a minimum period of one year
- Cost: $ 340/week (note: cost not covered by Medicaid)
° Individual Occupational Therapy, focusing on sensory integration -
Intensive one to one intervention to develop fine and gross motor skills along with
increased integration of sensory input.
3 hours per week recommended for a minimum period of one year
-Cost: $ 350/week (note: cost possibly covered by Medicaid)
